Funding band rules to know

  • The funding band caps the account or government contribution, not the commercial price. The employer pays any price above the band from other funds.
  • For new starts from 1 August 2026, a levy employer with insufficient account funds pays 25% up to the band.
  • For new starts from 1 August 2026, a non-levy employer pays 5% for an apprentice aged 25+; eligible starts aged 16–24 are government-funded up to the band.
  • Assessment arrangements and costs must match the exact approved standard version and sit within the overall funding maximum.
  • Earlier starts normally keep their original rule version. Check the current official rules before quoting.
