Nurseries & early years groups · Also supporting

Keep every practitioner qualified, trained and ready for Ofsted.

The EYFS sets requirements you have to be able to evidence for named people — safeguarding training kept up to date, paediatric first aid cover, qualification levels, designated safeguarding lead arrangements. TIQPlus holds each practitioner's file and shows the setting's position at a glance, including what expires in the next thirty days.

For nursery groups running roughly 3–50 settings, rather than single independent settings

The setting view

A group of eight settings has eight different positions.

Head office usually finds out about the weakest one late, because managers report by spreadsheet and the picture is stale on arrival. This is the same view for every setting, updating as training is completed rather than as it is reported.

The problem

Where practitioner files come apart

Single-setting processes work fine. They stop scaling somewhere around the third or fourth site.

1

Cover requirements are a rota problem, not a training statistic.

Paediatric first aid cover and designated safeguarding lead availability are not just records — they determine whether a room can operate. Knowing the group-wide percentage is useless. You need to know whether the cover exists in that room, on that day.

The risk: a room operating without the cover it needs.
2

Safeguarding training is a refresh cycle, not an induction task.

The EYFS expects safeguarding training to be kept up to date rather than completed once at induction. Knowing who is due, across several settings, on different anniversaries, is exactly the kind of tracking that decays quietly.

The risk: a lapsed safeguarding certificate found at inspection.
3

Group operators run several positions at once.

Eight settings means eight compliance positions, and head office usually learns about the worst one late. Managers report monthly by spreadsheet, and the picture is out of date before it is read.

The risk: the weakest setting being the one Ofsted visits.
4

Qualifications have to be evidenced, not assumed.

Qualification levels, and whether a qualification counts as full and relevant, affect how staff can be counted. That evidence usually sits as certificates in a personnel file rather than as data anyone can count quickly.

The risk: a staffing arrangement you cannot evidence on the day.

How it works

How TIQPlus handles it

The difference from a generic LMS is step two: cover tracked where it is actually inspected.

Set requirements per role and per setting

Define what a practitioner, room leader, deputy, manager, cook or bank member must hold: induction, safeguarding, paediatric first aid, food hygiene, qualification evidence, DBS and renewal intervals — set per setting and per nation where the framework differs.

Track cover at setting and room level

Requirements that are about cover rather than individuals — first aid presence, designated safeguarding lead arrangements — are counted where they apply, so a manager sees whether the room is covered, not a percentage.

Bank training and keep certificates with the person

Completed training and uploaded external certificates attach to the practitioner's file with dates, so professional development is evidenced rather than remembered.

Open the file when the inspector arrives

Every practitioner's record shows induction, training, qualifications, DBS and expiry dates in one place, exportable per person, per setting or across the group.

The record

What is in each practitioner file

Maintained continuously, so an unannounced visit is a login rather than an afternoon of photocopying.

Record What it holds
Induction and safeguarding Induction completion, safeguarding training with its refresh date, and the date each practitioner was cleared to work with children.
Paediatric first aid Certificate, issue and expiry date per practitioner, with cover counted at setting and room level rather than only per person.
Qualifications Level 2, Level 3 and higher qualifications with certificate evidence attached, held against the role each practitioner occupies.
Designated safeguarding lead Who holds the role at each setting, their training, and the deputy arrangements behind them.
DBS and suitability DBS check completion and review dates, and suitability declarations, tracked with the same expiry logic.
Ongoing professional development Training completed through the year, itemised by topic and date, including externally delivered courses and conference attendance.
Policy acknowledgements Which version of the safeguarding policy, behaviour policy or emergency procedure each person acknowledged, and when.

Who uses it

Who uses it

Nursery Managers

Know the setting is ready before the inspection rather than during it, and see cover by room before writing the rota.

  • First aid and safeguarding cover per room
  • Expiring requirements inside the next month
  • Practitioners not yet cleared, with the reason

Group Operations & Quality

Compare settings on the same measures and support the one that is drifting before a renewal or inspection is at stake.

  • Setting-by-setting comparison across the group
  • Outliers surfaced without manager reporting
  • One export per setting for an inspection

HR and Training Leads

Plan development around what practitioners actually need, and keep certificate evidence with the person rather than in a cabinet.

  • Assign by gap rather than by headcount
  • Record external courses and upload certificates
  • Track progress toward higher qualification levels

One platform, configured for your sector

The requirement sets, evidence types and reporting above are configuration, not a separate product. The same platform runs learner, manager, admin and HR portals, generates training from your own documents, and exports the records you need.

FAQ

Questions we get from nursery groups

Does it handle the different frameworks across the UK nations?

Requirement sets are defined per role and per setting, so settings operating under different national frameworks can carry their own requirements, renewal intervals and cover rules.

How do you handle changes to the EYFS framework?

Requirements are configuration rather than hard-coded, so when the framework changes you adjust the requirement set and TIQPlus reassigns to the roles affected. We would always suggest confirming the detail of any change against the current statutory framework rather than relying on a supplier's summary.

Can we record training completed elsewhere?

Yes. External training, local authority courses and uploaded certificates can be recorded against a practitioner and counted in their development record.

Does it replace our HR or ratio planning system?

No. It holds the training, qualification and suitability evidence, and shows cover against it. Rota and ratio planning stays where you do it today, informed by a clearer picture of who is cleared.

Is this worth it for a single setting?

Honestly, usually not. The value shows up when you are running several settings and cannot see them all at once. A single independent nursery with a dozen staff can generally manage this well with what it already has.

Rebuild one setting's practitioner files

We will model the requirements for each role, load your current staff list for one setting, and show you the cover position and the file an inspector would be shown.

  • Model requirements per role and per setting
  • See first aid and safeguarding cover by room
  • Review the practitioner file end to end
  • Look at the group view across several settings
